About Us
Our History and Mission
The Iowa City Free Medical Clinic was established in 1971 to provide a wide range of health care services to patients in the Iowa City and surrounding community. The clinic was founded on the belief that health care is a basic human right.
The Free Medical Clinic currently provides a wide scope of acute and chronic outpatient medical care to those who do not have access to other health care providers, either for financial reasons or for reasons of confidentiality. We are committed to the concept of patient rights, including the right to receive medical treatment without moral or social judgment, and the right to privacy and confidentiality.
There are no fees for the Free Medical Clinic's services, though we do encourage patients to leave a $5 donation, more if they can, less if they can't.
Our Organization
The Iowa City Free Medical Clinic is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of interested community members and representatives from various Clinic volunteer areas. The Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month.. Committees of the Board (i.e.
Resource Development, Personnel, Board Development) meet as needed.
The Free Medical Clinic is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization funded by United Way, Johnson County, the cities of Iowa City and Coralville, and private donations. Donations are always needed and are tax-deductible.
